Well, I'm from California where guys wear long socks with shorts when wearing sneakers, especially flat soled sneakers (not running shoes), otherwise known as skater shoes. Sketchers, Etne, Quicksilver, Hurley among other brands are popular back in California - I've worn flat soled sneakers my whole life - and I'm sorry, but if you're wearing skater sneakers - you have to wear long socks, and preferably longerish shorts.
I've grown to accept the fact that guys on the East Coast are going to look okay showing off thier legs wearing bootie socks....but, it's taken me a long time to replace the image of bootie socks being only for girls....I mean the only thing that's missing is the little pom pom on the back of the sock.
So, I have to ask how this strange cultural difference developed. Why is it that on the East Coast the majority of guys in shorts and sneakers are wearing bootie, gurly, gay socks and the majority of guys in California wear some variation of tube socks....(with some exceptions made for transplants from the East Coast that hold onto thier bootie sock wearing ways).....
Anyway, I am of the opinion that anyone wearing running shoes or designer sneakers should wear gurly, gay bootie socks and if you're wearing flat soled skater shoes, you better have long socks....bootie socks look stoopid!!!
