Listed below are links to weblogs that reference East Coast Vs. West Coast: Socks with shorts....:

JASPER

I FOR ONE WEAR THEM AS I PREFER NOT TO WEAR SOCKS AT ALL WHEN WEARING SNEAKERS (LOOKS SEXIER) BUT WE ALL KNOW THAT'S A SUREFIRE WAY TO END UP WITH SSS (STINKY SNEAKER SYNDROME)- LONG SOCKS WITH SHORTS ARE FOR OLD DUDES ON THE GOLF COURSE!

Interesting. However, I must correct you in stating that no respectable skater from So.Cal would be caught dead in Sketchers, those were for the idiots in Costa Mesa. VANS are and always will be the way to go, well for us growing up in St.Mo.

Now I live in the heinous Wash Metro area and I have succumbed to wearing bootie socks! I must say they're more practical and take up less room in my gym bag and dresser. I, like you used to have retinal burning when seeing the "cheerleading" socks, but I have come around to the dark side. Just don't get me started on socks and sandles.

Matt

You are right. Long socks with skater shoes is correct. Short socks are for basketball shoes or running shoes only - and even then, long socks are fine. (But no short socks with skater shoes.) If you really want the advice of a shoe professional - ask Roy or Tony.

Spider

Must be an East Coast/West Coast thing - because here in FL - any type of "tennis shoe" is worn sockless or with short socks - or long socks rolled down. I would no more think of going out of the house in tennis shoes and long socks pulled up then I would going to the baths without my lube.

roque

I'm a tube socks kinda guy. I've never liked the ankle socks thing.

Corey II

Hmmmmmm...bf is "making you wear." Interesting. I know Rocko is great, however, socks are something for the feet, not a deal breaker. Corey you wear whatever the fuck you like...you are hot no matter what. Put Rocko in a pair of pink and white striped socks that go up to his thighs and "make him" spend the night at the Eagle.

And by the way, long tube socks are where it is at.

Your cultural characterization makes no sense. Take it from the West Coast. The west coast boys are going sockless these days. Actually, the warmer the climate the less clothes one wears.....and we all know where it is hot and where it is not. The short socks are out and the booties you speak of are like the leg warmers in the "Jane Fonda Workout," days. The smelly feet are handled by washing your feet, throwing the shoes in the washer periodically to clean them, allowing the shoes to dry completely after use, and for those who profusely have sweaty feet, use deodorant and or foot powders. BTW, the skater boys also are sockless with vans....... on another topic.....I think you need to come visit us...let us know.

Rami

I think tube socks with stripes are hot with shorts no matter what sneakers you have on. Of course, they have to be bunched down just so.

Corey

Rami makes a very good point, the socks have to be bunched at just the right spot and not too much....leg warmers aren't cool, but a little rumple is;..

Richard

Wow. That was so boring that I just poked my eyes out with a hot poker. As for taking fashion advice from Rocco...well.....that speaks for itself.

Mario

Go ahead. Wear what you want. Your feet, your shoes, your socks.

Ryan!

I say go euro style and wear black tube socks (pushed down).

eryk

Half way between, I think we have a fun compromise... or maybe it's just my own imagination?
(Most people in CO seem to wear trail running shoes or the "new fad" Crocs casually, I guess.) Skate shoes weren't actually that easy to find.
I wear these with my airwalks...

I can't believe that people actually wear Crocs?

Marcel

true ryan, white socks look poofy.but instead of just pushed or rolled down, fold them down to the ankle !!

Yong

Interesting analysis of socks :)

Paul

I've always gone with the white tube socks, pushed down (NOT worn high and tight like "school-girl knee-highs"). I just can't wear the "booty socks" or no socks, my ankles are too small. :-/ Maybe the "high ankle socks", like 'eryk' mention, are a good compromise?
