So last night I watched the reality TV series Wife Swap, which is not quite as good as Trading Spouses....but, last night - they had an inter-racial conservative Christian couple (wife was black) swap places with a lesbian couple.....
I couldn't help but get so angry at the Christian woman from Texas, who (I can only assume) has had to deal with some level of prejudice as a result of her mixed race marriage....She was SUCH a total judgmental bitch....
I often wonder why and how SO many in this country can be against gay marriage. Why are otherwise intelligent people compelled to keep two people that happen to be of the same sex from having a legally recognized union.
I know anyone that reads my blog is going to agree with me, so I'm kind of preaching to the choir, but - in truth - I have sort of conservative leanings and can usually understand the motivation for some of the doctrine the middle of the nation or red states support - but, the absolute unwillingness to even be open to the possibility that two people of the same gender deserve a life together, recognized by law, well...that baffles me.
Last night's episode of Wife Swap was interesting because I got to see how deep this bigotry runs....the touching moment was at the end of the episode - when the couples come face to face. The black Christian mother of a bi-racial daughter expressed concern that her daughter had been exposed to a lesbian, a potential sexual predator.....a terrible thing to say - but after collecting herself, and getting over the shock - the lesbian mother said, "I don't understand why people like you want to hurt people like us...."
I don't understand either.
After only watching it for a short time, I got so pissed and changed the channel.

As Mark did, I too was getting so angry and enraged, I needed to change the channel in roder to not go to bed a very pissed off person. I too am totally amazed and shocked at what a fucking scummy HATEFUL bitch that Black woman was. I really had to wonder what was keeping the Lesbian wife from telling the Christian bitch to get the fuck outta her house.

It always good to get a reality check.
Living in Boston its easy to forget that the gay "community" is facing a major cultural backlash.
The noding sheep on the gay left hate when I say this but, now was not the time to push for gay marriage. Civil Unions, and Don't Ask Don't Tell would have been much easier for the "red states" to digest.

Isn't it shocking that a black woman who is married to a white man can't see past her religious bigotry to see that the exact same arguments that she used against same sex unions was used against bi-racial marriages. You'd think that she'd be more understanding. She told one of the lesbians that she could just pretend to be straight and be able to "pass." It seems that she's trying to pass as a bigoted red state *white* woman.

I’m glad I did not watch. The one thing I would like to add is these people don't think for themselves. They listen to someone's interpretation of a book and live there lives how they are told to be a good person (Christian). These people cannot rationalize common sense. One of the fundamentals of the church they used to preach before the "Gay Agenda" was no man can judge another. You will be judged before God. This apparently has no longer applies.
I respect everyone's opinion even when I don't agree with it however I find the religious right is becoming increasingly hypocritical of their own dogma.

Fundamentalism, a recent development historically, is a "cry" for certainty in an uncertain world. For example, that's why creationists deny evolution. Fundamentalism is inherently flawed and its own logic collapses on itself when held to scrutiny. Problem is they don't scrutinize, they justify and get a pass because they are "protected" by their religion. They idolize a book (or dogma) instead of the message of the book. (Read Spong, Robert Funk or Jesus Seminar/Westar Institute if you want more.)
That explains why this particular rich black wife is capable of ignoring her own hypocrisy. She doesn't want her cocoon of prosperity busted!!

I can't believe you beat me to writing about this! GRRRR.
Don't have much to add that hasn't already been said here - but I got sucked in last night, too. And I was yelling at the screen. Thank God I took a break midway through the show to have gay sex in the shower - otherwise I might've had an aneurism.
I’m currently watching “The Apprentice” – hate this show, and haven’t watched at all since season one – but tonight, one of the teams made a fake ad for Dove soap with a gay-twist ending. The ad was lame, but there was lots of homophobia in and out of the boardroom. It’s more annoying than angering, as it’s almost flying under the radar here – it’s not made into a big deal so it’s not as easy to get outraged, as it was with the right wing mother last night. And there’s no healthy lesbian rebuttal. So I think this sort of thing is more damaging.
PS – Donald Trump is such a whore. Martha needs to get out of jail soon, so she can start filming her version.

I'm from Texas and I was so ashamed of being a Texan when I saw how this bitch was behaving.
